Sustainable development can only be achieved through real gender equality. Gender equality had been integrated as a stand-alone objective in the final document of the Open Working Group on Sustainable Development Goals. This is goal number 5, which is entitled "Achieve gender equality and empower all women and girls. (…) Gender inequality is an incompatible principle for a sustainable society and therefore it must be tackled.
