Future Prospects Initiative Timeline
Under its Egyptian presidency at the 194th session, on April 2014, the UNESCO Executive Board decided (194 EX/Decision 31 ) to make full use of UNESCO’s wealth of expertise and of its role as an intellectual and cultural hub to convene during 2014 and 2015, a series of events and debates within the framework of the initiative entitled “UNESCO: Future Prospects”, with the participation of eminent personalities and high officials of national and international bodies and agencies.
This initiative had been proposed initially by Egypt with the support of many Member States and the decision of the Board "UNESCO at 70 and Future Prospects" was endorsed by consensus.
UNESCO is celebrating its 70th anniversary in 2015, thus it is a landmark year in the history of the Organization. These debates will help to promote the Organization’s mandate to achieve lasting peace, the eradication of poverty, sustainable development and intercultural dialogue through education, the sciences, culture, and communication and information and will enrich UNESCO’s contribution to the post-2015 development agenda, emphasizing the importance and continued relevance of UNESCO in the world of today.

Evènements de l’Initiative Perspective d’Avenir
Le Conseil exécutif, dans la 194 Ex/Décision 31 , a décidé d’organiser en 2014 et 2015 une série de manifestations et de débats dans le contexte de l’initiative intitulée «UNESCO: perspectives d’avenir », en mettant pleinement à profit la riche expertise de l’UNESCO, ainsi que son rôle de plate-forme intellectuelle et culturelle, avec la participation d’éminentes personnalités et de hauts responsables d’institutions et organismes nationaux et internationaux.
Cette initiative avait été initialement proposée par l'Egypte avec le soutien de nombreux États membres et la décision du Conseil "l'UNESCO à 70 et perspectives d'avenir» a été approuvée par consensus.
L’année 2015 est une date clé dans l’histoire de l’Organisation et coïncide avec des événements cruciaux pour les valeurs qu’elle porte, notamment le programme de développement des Nations Unies pour l'après-2015. Elle souligne l’importance et le caractère toujours pertinent de l’UNESCO dans le monde d’aujourd’hui, ainsi que de son mandat, à savoir contribuer à l’édification d’une paix durable, à l’élimination de la pauvreté, au développement durable et au dialogue interculturel par l’éducation, les sciences, la culture, la communication et l’information.
